Marina Alta Walks
This site will eventually replace the one currently hosted at Marina Alta Walks.orgMarina Alta Walks.org. Uploading stuff to a Wiki is so much easier than messing about with HTML - so it has a chance of being updated here. I'll gradually copy the content over from the other site to this one.
The Marina Alta is the northern most part of the Costa Blanca, stretching from Benidorm at the southern most point to Gandia in the north. The site is dedicated to Roger Massingham; Bob Stansfield and Eric Wright, who were the pioneers in preparing walking guides in English for the Costa Blanca area. Over the years their walks have been supplemented by the energetic activities of the Costa Blanca Mountain Walkers.
We try to describe each walk in depth with the following details:
- How to get to the start of the walk
- Maps of the area
- Detailed maps of the walks showing points of interest
- Information on the Flora and Fauna to be found
- Geological information
- History of the area
However, some descriptions are pretty basic !
Walks:
Barranc Negre and Penya Talai
Location: Jalon
This is a short circular walk of some 4 - 5km, but it involves an ascent (and descent) of some 477 metres and walking on rough tracks.
Segaria over the top twice -
Location: Benimeli
This is a composite circular walk - i.e. mixture of marked and unmarked paths. It is quite long and strenuous, starting and ending in Benimeli. It involves traversing the South face of Segaria from West to East, a steep ascent over the top; a return traverse the other side and over the top again at the radio towers and Iberian ruins.
Pla de la Casa
Location: Facheca
This is a well marked strenuous circular walk on Serella from Facheca. A steep ascent takes you round the back of the mountain to a high plain (Pla), where there is a well preserved ice house (Nevera). A short scramble takes you to the summit and panoramic views. The return route sweeps down via the Barranc de Hondo.
Bernia Circuit
Location: Bernia
Classic well-marked moderately strenuous walk which takes you through a natural tunnel in the Bernia range. The contrast between the north and south faces of the mountain is very striking.
Mallá del Llop
Location Castell de Castells
A strenuous walk on Serella up the spectacular Barranc de la Canal.
